Following a major retrospective exhibition at Fundación Juan March, Madrid (October 18, 2024 – January 12, 2025), Joost Swarte drew this portrait of Saul Steinberg for the cover of their cultural agenda at the request of the City of Madrid.

Saul Steinberg (1914 – 1999) was a Romanian-American cartoonist best known for his cartoons in The New Yorker.
Steinberg is considered one of the most prominent artists of post-war art. His work cannot be classified in any way. As he himself said: "I don't really belong in the art, cartoon or magazine world, so the art world doesn't really know where to place me". He is still a source of inspiration for many artists, including Joost Swarte and Chris Ware (Chicago).
We also have his prints in our assortment. In our webshop you can still find the original posters, published by Galerie Maeght in 1977, including his famous Yellow Cab.
